Our Programs

The National Congress of Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) consists of over thirty Chapters across the United States, and it offers numerous programs designed to provide exceptional services to the community while fostering organizational growth within.

Advocacy

Members diligently work in collaboration with national, state, and local organizations to advocate for policy changes that will positively impact the lives of Black women and their families.  NCBW tackles a wide range of concerns to eliminate inequalities faced by Black women across all socio-economic spectrums, advancing equity and promoting their well-being.  For over forty years, NCBW has championed a myriad of social justice issues, including pay equity, the crusade against gangster rap and its effects on Black women, fair and affordable housing, passage of the Equal Rights Amendment and many other pressing issues. NCBW is at the forefront in promoting the inclusion of Black Women’s voices at the decision-making table.

Education and Leadership Development

A cornerstone purpose of NCBW is to increase the number of Black Women serving in a leadership capacity in all areas of society that impact their lives and the lives of their families.  Since 1984, NCBW has played a critical role in advancing these efforts. Across the United States, NCBW Chapters provide leadership activities to ensure that our mission and purposes are firmly grounded, serving as an anchor to empower Black women, our families and our communities. NCBW members are actively engaged in voter registration and voter education, and we encourage and actively promote entrepreneurship, leadership training, and internships at the national, state, and local levels.

Youth Development

NCBW opens the door of opportunity by bringing together professionals from various fields to expose young people to the options available to guide them toward making informed and positive choices about their lives and develop self-confidence, self-esteem and academic excellence.

One premier NCBW program is the College for Kids Program, in which educational, professional and community resources come together as a collective to cultivate knowledge of diverse career opportunities for youth participants. Another program is College for Teens, where students are financially supported to apply their acquired skills and knowledge to become contributing members of our society.  Each year, NCBW awards scholarships to eligible high school students who pursue their higher education goals.
